Arne Slot Pledges to Combine Strengths of Klopp’s Approach and His Own
Arne Slot, the new Liverpool manager, has pledged to implement a playing style that combines the best elements from his own approach and that of his predecessor, Jürgen Klopp, in order to lead the club to success.
Speaking for the first time since his appointment, Slot expressed his confidence in the quality of the Liverpool squad and the impressive performances they delivered last season. “I think we have a lot of quality and the way they played last season was already impressive, so we are going to build from there,” he said.
Slot acknowledged the need to incorporate some of his own staff members, including his assistant Sipke Hulshoff and performance coach Ruben Peeters from Feyenoord, while also recognizing the wealth of knowledge and expertise already present within the Liverpool organization. “We are going to use hopefully the best of both worlds to implement a few things from us and to use the knowledge that is inside this club already because of the nine years Jürgen and his staff worked here,” Slot explained.

The Dutchman also revealed that he has had discussions with Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, about “one or two” additional coaching appointments to his backroom staff, including the United States’ men’s goalkeeping coach, Fabian Otte, who will join after completing his duties at the Copa América.
Similarities Between Liverpool and Feyenoord
Slot emphasized the similarities between Liverpool and his former club, Feyenoord, in terms of their passionate and hardworking supporters, noting that “both are cities alongside the river, people work on the docks, it’s hard working-class fans that appreciate seeing the team.” He expressed his expectation to feel the same support and connection with the Anfield faithful.
Transition and Challenges
The new Liverpool manager has already spoken with the players and Klopp, seeking advice on the club and the squad, while also analyzing footage of Klopp’s work and Liverpool’s recent performances to identify areas for improvement. Slot challenged the Liverpool fans and players to maintain the same level of commitment and effort as in previous seasons, stating, “There is a change but the change hopefully isn’t that big, because we still have the same players, we still have the same fans – and if both of them are going to do the same job, that will make my life a lot more easy!“
