Football News: Bradford City Owner Aims for Promotion from League Two
In a recent interview with BBC Radio Leeds, Bradford City owner Stefan Rupp expressed his desire to see the Bantams secure promotion from League Two this season. This will be their sixth consecutive campaign in the fourth tier, and the German owner is prepared to invest the necessary funds to help the club return to League One.
“We are not there to end up somewhere mediocre. We are very ambitious, and our main goal for this season is to get promoted,” Rupp told the local radio station. The Bantams finished just one point outside the playoff places last season, and their owner is determined to see them take that next step.
The COVID-19 pandemic presented significant challenges for the club, but Rupp stated that the situation has now changed.
“Things were quite difficult to keep the boat afloat after Covid-19, and we said ‘We have to be sustainable and we have to stay alive’. Now the predicament has changed because if you look at the competition and the kind of budgets we are talking about… we have to take our measurements to be in the mix. I have to provide the funds for this.”
Rupp’s ambition is clear, as he emphasized:
“I’m willing to invest and give the management team the means to select a squad that is competitive and can win us promotion. I want to see promotion, simple as that. The club is too big to just be one of the teams in League Two.”
Bradford City has a rich history, having been relegated four times and promoted just once this century after reaching the Premier League for the first and only time in 1999. With the owner’s commitment to invest in the team, the Bantams will be aiming to write a new chapter in their quest for a return to the upper echelons of English football.
