2023/24 South Asians in Football Team of the Season Unveiled

It’s been another breakthrough campaign for British South Asians in football, with players from the community featuring at every level of the English women’s football pyramid and across every division in the men’s game except for the Premier League. Six players have retained their places from last year, but how does the 2023/24 squad shape up?

Sky Sports journalist and FA Level 2 scout Dev Trehan sat down with Desi Ballers founder Zohaib Rashid to pick the second annual South Asians in Football Team of the Season.

Goalkeeper

Jaz Singh (Tamworth) – Enjoyed a record-breaking season, helping Tamworth secure promotion to the National League as champions with 25 clean sheets and an astonishing 15-hour goalless streak.

Defenders

Asmita Ale (Tottenham/Leicester City), Easah Suliman (Sumgayit FK), Simranjit Singh Thandi (Doxa Katokopias), Mal Benning (Shrewsbury Town)

Midfielders

Hamza Choudhury (Leicester City), Millie Chandarana (Blackburn Rovers), Zidane Iqbal (FC Utrecht)

Attackers

Yan Dhanda (Ross County/Hearts), Amar Purewal (Hebburn Town), Aqsa Mushtaq (OFI Crete)

The squad also includes Rohan Luthra, Bivesh Gurung, Kira Rai, Adil Nabi, Brandon Khela, Dillon De Silva, Riya Mannu, Dilan Markanday, Tarryn Allarakhia, Simran Jhamat, and Nathan Minhas.
