Football News Update: Euro 2024, Champions League, and More
Dundee United’s new signing David Babunski is excited to bring his Barcelona experience to the Scottish Premiership. The North Macedonia international spent time in the famed La Masia academy, learning from the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, and Lionel Messi.
Babunski, who joined Dundee United a fortnight ago, described his time at Barcelona as the “most enriching” of his career. He had the opportunity to train alongside some of the greatest players of their generation, including Adama Traore and Gerard Deulofeu.
“To be able to learn so closely from all of them was, for me, a privilege,” Babunski told Sky Sports News. “When I look back to those years at Barcelona, they were the most enriching ones for me, definitely.”
The new Dundee United player highlighted the importance of understanding the game, not just technical ability, in separating the Barcelona stars from other players. “It’s about how they think about the game (that’s what separated them from other players),” he said.
Ahead of Dundee United’s season-opening derby against Dundee, Babunski is drawing on his experience of playing in derbies during his time at Barcelona’s youth academy, including matches against Espanyol and the “Mini El Clasicos” against Real Madrid.
“I know how important a derby is for the fans of the club, for the city. And with that awareness, we are going to work hard this week to prepare well and go out there on Sunday and give everything we’ve got to win,” Babunski said.
Sky Sports will be the home of Scottish football from the 2024/25 season, with up to 60 Scottish Premiership games and at least five SWPL matches available across their flagship channels. Fans can also enjoy comprehensive coverage on Sky Sports News and digital platforms.
