Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane Shine as England Advance to Euro 2024 Quarter-Finals
The round of 16 at Euro 2024 has come to a close, with eight teams remaining in the race for the prestigious Henri Delaunay Trophy. As the quarter-final line-up takes shape, the path to the final in Berlin is becoming clearer, with several European powerhouses set to battle it out for a spot in the semis.
England needed a moment of individual brilliance from Jude Bellingham and a clutch strike from Harry Kane in extra time to overcome a resilient Slovakia side in their last-16 clash. This hard-fought victory has set up a mouthwatering quarter-final showdown against Switzerland, who stunned defending champions Italy in the previous round.
Gareth Southgate’s men will be heading to Dusseldorf for the Saturday teatime clash, with the other semi-final already determined. The quarter-final action kicks off on Friday, with a tantalizing clash between in-form Spain and tournament hosts Germany in Stuttgart. Spain secured their place in the last eight after dispatching tournament debutants Georgia 4-1, while Germany overcame Denmark 2-0.
Friday’s second quarter-final will see Portugal, fresh from a penalty shootout win over Slovenia, take on pre-tournament favourites France, who have struggled to find their best form at Euro 2024. The French’s 1-0 victory over Belgium on Monday did little to silence their critics.
After the England-Switzerland clash, the final quarter-final will see the Netherlands, who are aiming to build on their 3-0 triumph over Romania, face a resilient Turkey side that battled past the tournament’s surprise package, Austria.
