Football News Update: England Women’s Squad Bolstered Ahead of Euro 2025 Qualifiers
In a boost for the England women’s national team, goalkeeper Mary Earps and defender Niamh Charles are expected to return to the squad in time for the upcoming Euro 2025 qualifiers, which resume next week.
Manager Sarina Wiegman confirmed the positive news, stating, “We expect that everyone who is in camp right now would be available.” The Lionesses are set to face the Republic of Ireland on Friday, 12 July, followed by a clash with Sweden four days later.
The England team is currently participating in a training camp in the Netherlands, with Earps and Charles traveling with the squad to continue their rehabilitation from injuries. Wiegman emphasized, “Everyone who is here is fit – well, fit or in rehab or building towards minutes.“
Regarding the fitness status of other players, Wiegman noted that it was “not the moment to take the risk” with midfielder Lauren James, who missed out on a place in the squad due to a foot injury. “It’s progressing well, but it was too early to bring her in,” the manager said, adding that James is “going in the right direction” in her recovery.
“This is what we knew from the summer. We said at the beginning of this year that we talked to every club and discussed what the summer would look like, and they could train with us when the club release them.” – Sarina Wiegman
The upcoming Euro 2025 qualifiers are crucial for the England women’s national team as they look to build on their recent success, which includes winning the Women’s World Cup in 2023 and the 2022 UEFA Women’s Championship.
