Erling Haaland Shines for Manchester City, But Misses Euro 2024 with Norway

Erling Haaland has continued his electric form for Manchester City, helping the club secure a second consecutive Premier League title and Golden Boot award. The Norwegian striker has already scored an impressive 90 goals in just two seasons at the Etihad, following his £51 million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, and was instrumental in the Cityzens’ famous treble-winning campaign in his debut season.

Despite Haaland’s world-class performances, he will not be representing Norway at the upcoming European Championships in Germany this summer. The 23-year-old has yet to appear at a major tournament with his national team, as Norway once again failed to qualify for Euro 2024.

“Drawn into a qualifying group alongside Spain, Scotland, Georgia, and Cyprus, Norway were widely expected to progress alongside the Spaniards, with Scotland seen as their only real competition. However, after going winless against the Scots and dropping points to Georgia, as well as Scotland’s impressive form, Haaland and his teammates were out of the running before the group had even finished, settling for a disappointing third-place finish.”

To add insult to injury, Haaland managed only one goal against the two eventual qualifiers, a consolation penalty in a 2-1 defeat to Scotland. Norway’s other star player, Martin Odegaard, will also miss the tournament.

As the football world eagerly awaits the Euro 2024 competition, Haaland and Norway will have to focus their attention on the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Champions League, and their domestic campaign in the Premier League. The striker will be hoping to continue his remarkable goal-scoring exploits and lead Manchester City to further success, while also aiming to secure a spot for Norway at the 2026 World Cup.
