In the opening match of Group D at the Euro 2024 football tournament, France secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Austria. The decisive goal came courtesy of an own-goal by Austria’s Max Wober, who inadvertently headed Kylian Mbappe’s cross into his own net.
The game proved to be a tense affair, with France struggling to find the second goal that would have put the result beyond doubt. Despite Austria’s best efforts, they were unable to find an equalizer, and the reigning World Cup champions held on for the three points.
