Football News Update: UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 to be Broadcasted Live on BBC and ITV
In a significant development for women’s football enthusiasts, the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championship will be broadcast live by the BBC and ITV after the two broadcasters secured the rights to the tournament.
The upcoming Women’s Euros, which will be hosted by Switzerland, will mark the first time the competition has been added to the UK government’s ‘crown jewels’ list of major sporting events that must be aired live and free-to-air. This prestigious list includes the Olympics, Paralympics, the Grand National, and Wimbledon.
“BBC Sport has been a longtime supporter of the women’s game, and the BBC is committed to bringing the nation together for the biggest sporting moments,” said the new director of BBC Sport, Alex Kay-Jelski. “We’re excited that we can bring another major tournament to audiences next summer.”
The 16-team tournament, set to kick off on 2 July 2025, will see the defending champions, England’s Lionesses, looking to retain their title. Meanwhile, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales will be hoping to secure their place in the finals through the upcoming playoff rounds in October.

In a similar arrangement to the coverage of major men’s international tournaments, the BBC and ITV will be sharing the broadcast rights. Both channels will televise the final live on Sunday, 27 July 2025, with matches being shown on BBC television, BBC iPlayer, ITV1, and ITV4.
The decision to jointly cover the Women’s Euros follows the successful collaboration between the two broadcasters during the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which drew significant audiences to ITV.
“Following the success of the Women’s World Cup last year, which drew big audiences to ITV across the tournament, we are looking forward to showcasing next year’s UEFA Women’s Euro,” said ITV’s director of sport, Niall Sloane.
The increased coverage and visibility of women’s football, coupled with the exciting prospect of the 2025 Women’s Euros, are sure to captivate football fans across the UK and beyond.
