Football News Update: Tribute to Young Football Enthusiast
England footballer John Stones has dedicated the Three Lions’ victory over Slovakia in the Euro 2024 knockout match to a “special little boy” who passed away peacefully during the game. Five-year-old Dillan Ramsey, who was diagnosed with leukemia as a one-year-old, died on Sunday evening, his family announced.
Dillan’s mother, Amy, from Manchester, said he had left “an army of broken hearts” after four years of treatments, including chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant, and further treatment in the US. Stones, who had previously shared the family’s appeal for a bone marrow donor, expressed his condolences, stating that “Tonight was for Dillan” and that the young boy was “an inspiration to us all.”
“You are not in pain anymore Dilly my gorgeous boy.” – Amy Ramsey
In a heartbreaking social media post, Ms. Ramsey shared that Dillan “was still talking and making us laugh until he took his last breath.” He was first diagnosed with leukemia in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, and the family had “poured every penny” of their savings into his care, with Ms. Ramsey stating they had “lost everything from fighting for so long.” An online fundraiser to support the family has raised more than £650,000.
The Premier League, Champions League, FIFA World Cup, Women’s World Cup, and other major football competitions have expressed their condolences to the Ramsey family during this unimaginably difficult time. The Africa Cup of Nations standings and updates on the EFL Cup, EFL Championship, EFL One, EFL Two, and FA Cup will continue to be closely followed by football enthusiasts worldwide.
