Football News: Jude Bellingham Defends England’s ‘Ugly Win’ Over Serbia in Euro 2024 Opener

Gelsenkirchen, GermanyJude Bellingham was not pleased with the characterization of England’s 1-0 victory over Serbia in their opening Euro 2024 group match as an ‘ugly win’. The 20-year-old midfielder, who scored the decisive goal for the Three Lions, insisted that his team had played some ‘very nice stuff‘ and that the negatives were being overly highlighted.

Gareth Southgate’s side struggled to maintain their dominance in the second half, with Serbia creating more chances. Despite the unconvincing nature of the performance, Bellingham remained upbeat, highlighting the positives and the need to focus on the next game against Denmark on June 20.

“I don’t know about that, I thought we moved the ball really well at times,” Bellingham told ITV Sport after the match. “I think there were times you had to be a bit rough, a bit dogged but I think overall there were some really nice bits of play.”

The midfielder acknowledged that England had to defend their box well at times but insisted that the other teams had faced similar challenges. “There’s always an instant negative reaction to the games we play. I think we just need to be calm, analyze it for what it is, take the good with the bad and move on to the next game,” he said.
