Jude Bellingham’s Remarkable Start at Real Madrid

The start of Jude Bellingham’s Real Madrid career has been nothing short of exceptional, surpassing even the highest of expectations. The 20-year-old English midfielder’s domestic campaign culminated in a stunning performance at Wembley earlier this month, where he scored 23 goals, earned the La Liga Player of the Season award, and secured both league and Champions League winner’s medals.

Former Real Madrid player and English trailblazer, Steve McManaman, has been thoroughly impressed not only by Bellingham’s on-field heroics but also by his conduct off the pitch. McManaman, who was present at Bellingham’s first El Clásico against Barcelona in October, witnessed the youngster score twice, including a last-minute winner, to secure a 2-1 victory for Real Madrid at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

“Two goals in the Clásico and a last-minute winner – talk about getting the Real Madrid fans onside,” McManaman told FourFourTwo, chuckling. “I was at that game and I spoke to him afterwards. I was reminiscing with some of the kit men and members of the backroom staff, as a lot of them are still there from when I played for the club, when Jude suddenly walked out. He didn’t have to say a word to me, but he said, ‘Next time you’re in Madrid, give me a call and we’ll go out for dinner’. It was very nice of him to suggest that.”

McManaman, who spent four seasons at the Bernabéu, winning two La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues, believes that Bellingham is well-positioned to surpass his own achievements. “As an Englishman who knows most people at the club, I’m incredibly proud to see what he’s been doing,” the 52-year-old said. “It would be fantastic to see him go on and become the most successful English player ever.”

Bellingham’s impressive performances have also earned him a leading role in England’s Euro 2024 lineup, and Three Lions fans are daring to dream that the young star’s next trick could be helping to end a 58-year trophy drought.
