Football News: Peter Schmeichel Hopes to See Son Kasper Return to Premier League

In the world of football, Peter Schmeichel, the legendary former Manchester United goalkeeper, has expressed his desire to see his son, Kasper Schmeichel, return to the Premier League.

The elder Schmeichel, who spent the majority of his playing career in England, including winning the title during his 11-year stint with Leicester City, believes that the Premier League is the rightful place for his son. Kasper Schmeichel, Denmark’s number one goalkeeper, left the Premier League in 2022 after a successful spell with Leicester City.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan show, Peter Schmeichel said, “I really want to see him back in the Premier League. I think that’s where he belongs.” The former Manchester United legend further added, “Let’s hope these Euros remind people of him because I’d love to see him back there.

Kasper Schmeichel, who is now 37 years old, is currently playing for Anderlecht in the Belgian Pro League, where the team finished as runners-up. Despite his advanced age, Schmeichel is showing no signs of slowing down, and his father is incredibly proud of his achievements.

“It’s so weird because when you retire from football you want to put some distance between you and the game emotionally – I’ve never had that chance!” said Peter Schmeichel. “Every time he’s playing or Denmark are playing there’s this element of emotion in there, but I’m really, really proud of him.”

Kasper Schmeichel has firmly established himself as Denmark’s number one goalkeeper, having surpassed the 100-cap mark in the build-up to the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament. With Denmark aiming to make a deep run in the competition, Peter Schmeichel is hopeful that his son’s performances will remind the Premier League clubs of his quality, leading to a potential return to England’s top flight.
