Football Legend Paul Scholes Admired for Unparalleled Talent, Says Former Opponent Jamie O’Hara

In a recent interview on The Sports Bar, former Premier League midfielder Jamie O’Hara revealed his deep admiration for Manchester United icon Paul Scholes, widely regarded as one of the finest midfielders of his generation.

O’Hara, who faced off against Scholes during his spells at Tottenham, Portsmouth, and Wolves, recalled being left in awe of the United legend’s exceptional abilities on the pitch. “Honestly when I played against Paul Scholes, I used to stand there just in awe of him thinking: ‘Oh my God, this guy is so good at football!'” said O’Hara.

The former Spurs man pointed to one particular encounter in March 2012, when a then 37-year-old Scholes produced a masterclass performance in United’s 5-0 thrashing of O’Hara’s Wolves side. “He had 110 passes, 110 completed. Did not give the ball away once in the game in 90 minutes,” marveled O’Hara. “He was absolutely, outrageously good.”

Scholes’ passing range and vision were a sight to behold, as O’Hara attested: “And it wasn’t just easy passes. He’s hitting 70 yarders, like diagonals on toast! How good was he?”

The former England international’s quality was not lost on the wider football community either. Iconic midfielder Zinedine Zidane, a 1998 World Cup champion, famously described Scholes as “the greatest player in the world.”

Scholes went on to retire from football in 2013 after a glittering career, having won 11 Premier League titles and a plethora of other trophies with Manchester United. For those like O’Hara who had the privilege of facing him, the memory of Scholes’ unparalleled talent will undoubtedly live on.
