Football News Update: London City Lionesses Sign Kosovare Asllani, Appoint Jocelyn Prêcheur as New Manager

In a major coup for the Women’s Championship, London City Lionesses have secured the signing of Swedish international Kosovare Asllani. The 34-year-old former Milan, Real Madrid, and Manchester City forward, who can also play in midfield, was unveiled alongside the club’s new manager, Jocelyn Prêcheur, at a prestigious London hotel on Thursday.

Prêcheur, who is making the switch from his role at Paris Saint-Germain, where he led the team to the Women’s Champions League semi-finals last season, is a notable acquisition for the English second-tier club. Asllani, capped 187 times by Sweden and a key member of their squads that won silver medals at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, as well as finishing third at the 2019 and 2023 Women’s World Cups, is widely regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe.

Relocation and Training Ground Purchase

The arrival of these high-profile names is accompanied by further announcements from London City Lionesses, including their decision to relocate their home fixtures to Bromley next season, moving away from their previous match-day venue in Dartford. The club’s owner, US businesswoman Michele Kang, who also owns Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League and eight-time European champions Lyon, believes that having a home within the boundaries of London is the right move for a club that bears the capital’s name.

Kang, who took over the English side this winter, also revealed that the club has purchased its own training ground in Kent, as she aims to guide London City Lionesses into the Women’s Super League. The club finished eighth in the Championship last season, nine points clear of the relegation zone but 21 points adrift of the division’s sole promotion spot, which was claimed by Crystal Palace.
