Football News: Manchester United in Talks to Sign Bologna Striker Joshua Zirkzee for Premier League Push

In a move that could bolster their attacking firepower, Manchester United have held discussions with the camp of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee as they contemplate a summer transfer. The Dutch forward, who is believed to be open to a Premier League switch, has also been linked with a potential move to Arsenal as they seek offensive reinforcements.

According to reports, the Red Devils are looking to provide competition for Rasmus Hojlund going into the new campaign. Zirkzee, who scored 11 goals in 34 Serie A games last season, could be available for a relatively modest sum of £34 million due to a release clause in his Bologna contract.

“The 23-year-old’s contributions have helped Bologna secure a fifth-place finish in the league, earning them a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season.”

The 23-year-old is currently with the Netherlands national team at Euro 2024, having received a late call-up to Ronald Koeman’s squad as a replacement for the injured duo of Frenkie de Jong and Teun Koopmeiners. While Zirkzee was an unused substitute in the Netherlands’ opening Group D match against Poland, he could be in line to make his international debut against France on Friday night.

Prior to joining Bologna in 2022, Zirkzee was on the books of Bayern Munich, where he scored four goals in 17 matches between 2019 and 2021. He also enjoyed loan spells at Parma and Anderlecht before leaving the Allianz Arena on a permanent deal.
