Football News Update: Manchester United Announces £50M Carrington Training Ground Revamp
In a major boost for the club, Manchester United has announced a £50 million revamp of their Carrington training complex, with the project set to commence next week. The renovation, led by renowned architect Norman Foster, aims to transform the facility into a “world-class” training ground that will enhance the performance of the men’s first-team.
According to United’s owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the decision to undertake this project comes after a thorough review of the Carrington training grounds, which revealed the need to raise the standards to match those of their peers. Ratcliffe expressed his belief that this investment will create a world-class environment for the team to succeed, with the renowned architect Lord Foster providing “great inspiration” to the design.

The initial focus of the project will be on improving the gym, medical, nutrition, and recovery areas, with an emphasis on creating more space for collaboration and innovation among players and staff. Temporary adaptations will also be made to the rest of the Carrington site to ensure that players and staff from all teams, including the women’s and academy squads, can continue to operate successfully during the upcoming season.
This latest phase of development at Carrington follows the opening of a £10 million state-of-the-art women’s and academy building last summer, bringing the total investment in the club’s integrated football facilities to over £60 million over the past two years.
Architect’s Vision for the Revamp
Lord Foster, the renowned architect behind the redesign of Wembley Stadium and the Lusail Stadium for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, expressed his aim to “modernise and revitalise the building as a catalyst for future footballing success, creating spaces that inspire a culture of collaboration, unity and belonging.”
This significant investment in Manchester United’s training ground infrastructure underscores the club’s commitment to providing the best possible environment for its teams to thrive, as they seek to regain their position among the elite of European and global football.
