Football News: Manchester United Positioned to Sign Leny Yoro from Lille

According to reports, Manchester United are in a strong position to beat several rivals in the race to sign Leny Yoro from Ligue 1 outfit Lille.

It’s emerged that Erik ten Hag is set to stay at Man Utd, and their focus will now shift towards transfers, with a new centre-back being one of their priorities. This development is said to have handed Premier League rivals Chelsea an advantage in the race to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, as the Red Devils believe there are bigger positional needs to address.

The 2023/24 campaign was a miserable one for Ten Hag and Man Utd, as they were seriously hampered by injuries and finished eighth in the Premier League. The defensive department was particularly affected, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane both struggling with form and fitness issues.

In their pursuit of strengthening the backline, Man Utd have identified Leny Yoro as a potential target. The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in Ligue 1, making 44 appearances for Lille across all competitions. His emergence as one of the best young defenders in the French top flight has caught the attention of several European giants, including Chelsea and Real Madrid.

However, according to reports from Spain, Man Utd have now ‘sent an offer’ to Lille for Yoro, and it ‘exceeds’ the proposal on the table from Real Madrid. While the exact value of the bid is not mentioned, it was previously claimed that the Red Devils have submitted a £51m proposal to Lille.

The French club is said to be keen for the buying club to ‘break the bank’ for Yoro, and while Real Madrid may not be able to match Man Utd’s offer, the ‘sporting project’ in Spain could still be more appealing to the player.

As the transfer window heats up, it remains to be seen whether Manchester United can secure the signing of Leny Yoro and bolster their defensive options ahead of the 2024/25 season.
