Football News: Marc Guiu Announces Arrival on the Big Stage with Barcelona Debut Goal

Guiu’s journey to the first team has been a long one, as he joined Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy a decade ago at the age of seven. “Now, everybody is talking about Marc Guiu,” says Albert Capellas, Barcelona’s former assistant director of youth football. “But he arrived at the club 10 years ago when he was seven years old. That means that the club has had to wait 10 years before he could play for the first team. It is a long time.”
Despite facing challenges, such as growth spurts that impacted his development, Guiu persevered, and his skills caught the eye of the Barcelona coaches. Capellas describes Guiu as a “finisher” and a “deep runner” with exceptional aerial ability and a keen nose for goal. “Marc Guiu is not a player who has unbelievable skills one against one, who can dribble past players. He is another type of player but he is exceptional in his position, in the work that he has to do, in his mentality.”
Guiu’s impact was immediate, as he showcased his talent on the biggest stages. After his debut goal against Athletic Bilbao, he went on to score a stoppage-time equalizer for Barcelona in the Champions League against Antwerp. The young striker has also provided assists for his teammates, demonstrating his ability to link up with the club’s star players.
