Football News: Euro 2024, Champions League, and World Cup Updates

Ahead of the highly anticipated Euro 2024 tournament, the French national team has faced a setback as key players Kylian Mbappe and Kingsley Coman were absent from training due to a virus outbreak at their training base in Paderborn, West-Rhine Westphalia.

According to reports, both Mbappe and Coman missed Thursday’s training session as Didier Deschamps’ side prepares to begin their tournament campaign on Monday against Austria. Additionally, Deschamps himself has also been affected by the bug.

Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembele, who was also hit by the virus, has confirmed that he is on the mend, stating, “For me I am a lot better. I had the flu last week and I was the first one but I feel a lot better now. The team is a lot better. Everyone will be okay in a couple of days.”

This is not the first time the French national team has had to deal with a virus outbreak at a major tournament. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Raphael Varane and Ibrahima Konate were reported to have picked up a bug ahead of the final, while three players missed the semi-final against Morocco due to illness.

Despite these setbacks, Deschamps remains hopeful that France can bounce back and complete the job in this summer’s Euros. “The objective is around the French national team in terms of what we’ve achieved and what we’re capable of achieving,” the manager said.
