Football News Update: Phil Foden Returns to England’s Euro 2024 Training Camp

Phil Foden is set to rejoin England’s training camp on Thursday evening after flying back home to attend the birth of his third child. It is hoped that the 23-year-old attacker will be able to participate in the team’s preparations for their crucial last-16 clash against Slovakia at Euro 2024 on Friday.

The Football Association had earlier confirmed that Foden was granted permission to leave the England squad in Germany to attend a “pressing family matter” on Wednesday, a day after the team’s draw with Slovenia.

“With his partner welcoming a new baby boy, Foden is now expected to return to England’s Blankenhain base and potentially be available for selection against Slovakia. Whether he will start the match remains to be seen.”

Meanwhile, Declan Rice and Kieran Trippier were not part of the main training session on Thursday. The focus has been on load management, and there are no reports of any injury concerns for the two players. Both Rice, who has played every minute of England’s first three games, and Trippier, who has been starting at left-back, are expected to be fit and ready for the Slovakia encounter.

As the Three Lions prepare for their knockout stage debut at Euro 2024, the return of Foden will be a welcome boost for Manager Gareth Southgate and his squad. The young midfielder has been an integral part of England’s campaign so far, and his availability could prove crucial in their pursuit of advancing further in the tournament.
