Football News Update: Portugal’s Euro 2024 Campaign Faces Injury Concerns

In the latest Football News, Portugal’s Euro 2024 campaign is facing injury concerns, as forward Diogo Jota is a doubt to face Georgia after missing full training on Monday.

The Liverpool star, who had a torrid season with injuries, missed the day’s main session at Euro 2024 due to ‘muscle fatigue’, according to CNN Portugal. Jota had previously missed eight games for Liverpool after sustaining a muscle injury in November and was later stretchered off in Liverpool’s win over Brentford in February with a knee collateral ligament tear that sidelined him for 11 games.

“Despite missing Portugal’s 3-0 win over Turkey and playing just 27 minutes of their opener against Czech Republic, Jota may also miss their final game of the group stage against Georgia.”

It’s reported that Jota, along with Nuno Mendes and Goncalo Ramos, who was struck by a pitch invader on Sunday, all did their specific training separately from the main group.

Fellow forward Rafael Leao will also miss the clash with Georgia due to two yellow cards in the first two games for simulation. This may have given Jota hope of a start, especially as Portugal have six points and sit top of Group F. Jota also saw a goal disallowed in his cameo against Czech Republic, but now muscle fatigue could prevent him from making his mark at the tournament.
