Football News: Rasmus Hojlund Ruled Out of Manchester United’s Premier League Opener

Manchester United will kick off the new Premier League season on Friday night against Fulham, but they will be without their Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund. The 21-year-old, who joined the Red Devils from Atalanta last summer, is set to miss the opening games due to a hamstring injury.

Hojlund suffered the injury during Manchester United’s 2-1 pre-season defeat to Arsenal in late July and is expected to be out of action for around six weeks. This means he will miss the matches against Fulham, Brighton, and Liverpool in the Premier League.

“It’s possible that Hojlund could return for United’s trip to Southampton on September 14, but the visit to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on September 21 might be a more realistic return date.”

In Hojlund’s absence, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will have to rely on other options up front, with Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee likely to fill in. Rashford started the Community Shield against Manchester City as the lone striker, while Zirkzee, who joined from Bologna earlier this summer, is still working on his match fitness after being given extra time off following the Netherlands’ semi-final run at Euro 2024.

The injury to Hojlund is a blow for the Red Devils, as the young Dane showed flashes of brilliance mixed with rawness in his debut season in the Premier League. He will be expected to kick on and become a key player for Manchester United once he returns to full fitness.
