Football News Update: Real Madrid Willing to Sell Lunin to Arsenal for £21M

According to reports, European giants Real Madrid are willing to sell their Ukrainian international goalkeeper Andriy Lunin to Arsenal this summer. The Spanish club has set an affordable asking price of £21 million (€25 million) for the 25-year-old shot-stopper.

Lunin’s Struggle for Regular Playing Time

Lunin joined Real Madrid in 2018 but has struggled to establish himself as a regular first-team player, with only 17 senior appearances for the La Liga champions. However, he impressed last season, making 31 appearances as Madrid won both the Champions League and La Liga titles.

The goalkeeper’s future at the Bernabeu has been in doubt, especially after he was left out of the squad for the Champions League final despite his solid performances throughout the campaign. It is now reported that Lunin is eager to become a number one goalkeeper elsewhere, leading to interest from Arsenal.

Arsenal’s Interest in Lunin

The Gunners recently made Spain international David Raya their permanent first-choice goalkeeper, signing him from Brentford for £27 million. However, Mikel Arteta’s side has now joined Manchester United in the race to sign Lunin from Real Madrid.

According to Spanish reports, Arsenal are “particularly interested” in the Ukrainian, and Arteta is “insisting the most on the signing.” Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is said to be willing to sanction Lunin’s departure, with the £21 million asking price seen as an affordable fee for the Premier League club.

This potential move could be part of Arsenal’s summer transfer activity, as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2024-25 season, which will include their return to the UEFA Champions League. The Gunners will be eager to build on their impressive 2022-23 campaign, where they finished second in the Premier League.
