Football News Update: Scotland Vows To Bounce Back Against Switzerland After Euro 2024 Defeat
In the aftermath of their crushing 5-1 defeat to hosts Germany in their opening Euro 2024 match, Scotland midfielder John McGinn has promised a “different Scotland” when they take on Switzerland on Wednesday.
The huge traveling support of Scottish fans in Munich could not inspire the team to a positive result, leaving McGinn acknowledging that “it doesn’t take a genius to work out where it went wrong” in the one-sided affair.
“On Wednesday, you’ll see a different Scotland. A team with a point to prove, probably more to ourselves than anything else,” McGinn declared. “Seeing the amount of Scotland fans in Munich, that’s the disappointing thing, feeling like we’ve let them down.”
However, the Scotland international was quick to remind that the opportunity is still there, with the team set to finish their group stage against Hungary on Sunday. The top two teams in the group, as well as four of the six nations who finish third, will advance to the knockout rounds of the tournament.
No Scottish team has ever progressed from the group phase at a major finals before, but McGinn and his teammates are determined to change that narrative in the upcoming matches.
The Clash Against Switzerland
The clash against Switzerland on June 21st will be a crucial one for Scotland, as they look to bounce back from the opening-day defeat and keep their Euro 2024 hopes alive.
