Football News: Slovakia Captain Milan Skriniar Confident of Upsetting England in Euro 2024 Last-16 Clash

Slovakia captain Milan Skriniar is confident his side can upset the odds and “write history” by beating England in their Euro 2024 last-16 clash.

The 28-year-old Inter Milan defender is relishing the opportunity to take on Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions, who are considered favorites to progress to the quarter-finals of the European Championship.

“We are not afraid of England,” Skriniar said. “They are a strong team, but we have our own quality, and we believe we can win this match. It would be a historic moment for Slovak football if we could beat England at the Euros.”

Slovakia secured their place in the knockout stages after finishing second in Group C, behind defending champions Portugal. They will face an England side that topped Group D, which included wins over Croatia and the Czech Republic.

“We know England have a lot of quality players, but we are not going to sit back and defend,” Skriniar added. “We will try to play our own game, be brave, and take the game to them. It’s a chance to write history, and we will give it our all.”

The last-16 clash between England and Slovakia will take place on June 28th at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The winner of the tie will advance to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.
