Stevenage Triumph in Euro 2024 Qualifier, Champions League and FIFA World Cup Updates

In a thrilling EFL League Two encounter, new Stevenage manager Alex Revell got off to a winning start as his team secured a 1-0 victory at home against Shrewsbury.

The match, played on 18 March 2023, saw Stevenage’s Elliott List fire home the only goal of the game in the 58th minute. List produced a shimmy on the left side of the box before rifling the ball across Shrewsbury goalkeeper Toby Savin.

Stevenage could have doubled their lead, but Dan Kemp’s penalty, after he had been fouled, was put wide. The first half was a cagey affair, with the opening 25 minutes being largely forgettable. However, Stevenage grew into the game, and Kemp, Tyreece Simpson, and List were all denied by Savin.

At the other end, a shot by Shrewsbury’s Tom Bloxham got past Stevenage goalkeeper Murphy Cooper but was cleared as it neared the net by Dan Sweeney.

The second half saw both teams increase the intensity, but it was Stevenage who were the dominant force, doing most of the attacking. List’s goal was well-deserved, and despite the penalty miss, Stevenage closed out the victory with relative ease.

“This win for Stevenage in the EFL League Two clash comes as the football world prepares for a busy 2023-24 season, with the Euro 2024 qualifiers, Champions League, and FIFA World Cup all on the horizon.”
