Football News: Stevenage Bolster Defensive Line with Former Brentford Defender Charlie Goode Ahead of League One Season
In a move that strengthens their defensive options, Stevenage have signed former Brentford defender Charlie Goode on a one-year contract, with an option for a further 12 months. This signing is Boro’s seventh of the summer transfer window, as they prepare for their opening League One match against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.
Goode, a 29-year-old experienced center-back, did not make any appearances for Brentford last season, but gained valuable playing time during a loan spell with Wigan Athletic in League One, where he featured 13 times.
“Charlie has missed a lot of football over the last four years, but he’s passed every medical and physical test we’ve put in front of him. We believe he can be a valuable addition to our squad as we look to make our mark in League One this season.”
- Alex Revell, Boro boss
This signing comes as Stevenage aim to build on their previous campaign and establish themselves as a competitive force in the third tier of English football. With Goode’s wealth of experience and the club’s continued strengthening of their roster, Boro fans will be eager to see how their team performs in the upcoming season.
As the race for promotion to the EFL Championship heats up, Stevenage’s acquisition of Charlie Goode could prove to be a shrewd move, bolstering their defensive options and providing depth and stability at the heart of their backline.
