Football News: Euro 2024, Champions League, and More

Group E of the Euro 2024 tournament reaches a dramatic climax tonight, with all four teams level on points heading into the final matchday. For the first time ever at a European Championship, this unprecedented situation has set the stage for an intense finale.

Romania currently sit top of the group, with Belgium, Slovakia, and Ukraine all level on three points and separated by just three goals. One of these teams will unfortunately miss out on a place in the knockout stages, and talkSPORT.com breaks down what each side needs to do to progress.

Romania

The group leaders need to avoid defeat against Slovakia to guarantee their spot in the last 16. If they win tonight and Belgium fail to beat Ukraine, Romania will top the group. A pair of draws in the group’s other match would also see Romania finish first if they score more goals than Belgium.

Belgium

The Red Devils are eyeing a win against Ukraine to secure their progression. Three points would ensure a top-two finish in Group E. If Domenico Tedesco’s side win and Slovakia don’t beat Romania, Belgium will win the group. The same scenario would play out if both games end in draws and Belgium score more goals than Romania.

Slovakia

The Slovaks know a win over Romania would see them automatically qualify, while a draw would still be enough to finish third and potentially progress as one of the best third-placed teams. They can even top the group if they win and Ukraine fail to beat Belgium.

Ukraine

Bottom of the group, Sergiy Rebrov’s men can still win the group if they beat Belgium and Romania don’t defeat Slovakia. A draw for Ukraine could also see them progress in third place, as long as the other game doesn’t end level.
