SWPL Update, Euro 2024, and More

In the latest Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) update, Partick Thistle will host Hibernian, while Spartans entertain Motherwell. Notably, the SWPL2 champions, Queen’s Park, are set to embark on their first season in the top division as they welcome Heart of Midlothian, who finished fourth last term.

Interestingly, Queen’s Park have announced that their home games will be played 25 miles away at Stenhousemuir’s Ochilview Park, citing the move from Hampden as a requirement to meet SWPL criteria.

The first meeting between last season’s top three SWPL teams will take place on Sunday, 18 August, as City host Celtic, with Rangers making the same trip on Sunday, 13 October. Due to their involvement in the Women’s Champions League, the first Old Firm derby will be held on Wednesday, 2 October, with Rangers hosting Celtic.

In other news, Hibernian will entertain Heart of Midlothian in the first Edinburgh derby on Sunday, 8 September.

The SWPL will continue to feature 12 clubs playing 32 league games each, along with an eight-team SWPL2 playing 28 games, for a third consecutive season. However, this format will change for the 2025-26 campaign, transitioning to two 10-team leagues.

Regarding other football competitions, the countdown to Euro 2024 continues, with teams vying for a spot in the prestigious tournament. The Champions League and FIFA World Cup also remain in the spotlight, while the Women’s World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations standings continue to capture the attention of fans worldwide.

In the domestic leagues, the Premier League, EFL Cup, EFL Championship, EFL One, EFL Two, and FA Cup will provide plenty of thrilling action for football enthusiasts to follow in the coming months.
