    Football News: Slovenia Gearing Up for Euro 2024 Debut

    As the countdown to Euro 2024 in Germany continues, the Slovenia national football team is ready to make their second-ever appearance at the European Championship. Having been drawn in a challenging group against Serbia, Denmark, and England, the Slovenians have nothing to lose as they aim to spring a surprise on the bigger names.

    Returning to the Big Stage

    This will be Slovenia’s first major tournament appearance in 14 years, and they will be hoping to replicate or even exceed the performances of their previous Euros outing in 2000, when they put on one of the tournament’s best-ever group stage matches with a thrilling 3-3 draw against FR Yugoslavia.

    “We have a talented squad with a mix of experienced players and exciting young prospects,” said manager Matjaz Kek. “Our goal is to go out and compete with the best teams in Europe.”

    Led by experienced manager Matjaz Kek, who guided the team to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Slovenia boasts a talented squad that includes one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, as well as the world-class goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who plays for Atletico Madrid. Other key players include Jaka Bijol, an aerial threat from set-pieces, and veteran midfielder Josip Ilicic.

    Building Momentum

    The team’s confidence has been boosted by a 2-0 win over Portugal in March, and while reaching the knockout stages will be a tough challenge, Slovenia’s Euro 2024 squad is brimming with the potential to cause a few upsets in the group stage.
