US Olympic Men’s Soccer Roster Revealed
In a move that has the football world buzzing, the United States has announced its 18-man roster for the upcoming Olympic men’s soccer tournament. The squad features a mix of experienced veterans and promising young talents, all set to represent the Stars and Stripes on the global stage.
Headlining the roster are defenders Miles Robinson and Walker Zimmerman, along with forward Đorđe Mihailović, who will serve as the three overage players on the team. These seasoned athletes bring a wealth of experience, having previously donned the senior national team jersey for a combined 114 appearances.
Zimmerman, with 42 international caps, is poised to be a key figure in the team’s defensive lineup. He last played for the US against Canada in the June 2023 Concacaf Nations League final and was a crucial part of the 2022 World Cup squad, starting three of the four matches.
Joining Zimmerman in the backline is Cincinnati’s Miles Robinson, who has 29 international appearances under his belt. Robinson was on the US roster for the 2024 Copa América but did not see any playing time before the team’s early exit from the tournament.
The squad also features several young talents with senior national team experience, including midfielder Gianluca Busio (13 appearances), defender John Tolkin (4), defender Kevin Paredes (3), and forwards Taylor Booth, Tanner Tessmann, and Caleb Wiley (2 each).
The roster strikes a balance between players from Major League Soccer and those plying their trade overseas. Ten squad members ply their trade in MLS, while two each are from newly promoted Venezia in Italy and the Dutch Eredivisie. The team also boasts representation from the Premier League, the German Bundesliga, the Germany second tier, and Belgium’s top tier.
Midfielder Tanner Tessmann, who was the driving force behind Venezia’s promotion to Serie A this past season, is poised to be a crucial asset for the US. The young standout is currently in negotiations to join Internazionale on an $8 million permanent deal, where he will then be loaned back to Venezia to gain valuable experience in the Italian top flight.
As the US men’s team prepares to make their first Olympic soccer tournament appearance since 2008, they will face a tough challenge in the group stage. The team will open their campaign on July 24 against hosts France, followed by matches against New Zealand and Guinea. The top two nations in each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
With a mix of seasoned veterans and promising young talent, the US men’s Olympic soccer team is poised to make a statement on the international stage. Football fans worldwide will be closely following their journey as they strive to make history and bring home the elusive Olympic gold medal.
