Wrexham Triumph in Thrilling League One Opener

In an exciting start to their first League One campaign in 19 years, Wrexham secured a 3-2 home victory over Wycombe at the packed Stok Racecourse. The match was watched by the club’s Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, as the promoted hosts put on an enthralling display.

Wrexham took the lead early on through Max Cleworth’s goal in the 9th minute, and the advantage was doubled shortly before the half-hour mark when Jack Marriott scored a stunning volley after Ollie Palmer’s control of Elliot Lee’s cross.

“The match was packed with excitement, including a shot that ricocheted wide for Wrexham in the opening minutes and Wycombe hitting the bar twice in first-half injury time through Josh Scowen and Kone.”

Wycombe fought back in the second half, with Richard Kone pulling one back in the 58th minute. However, Wrexham substitute Steven Fletcher’s curling finish in the 83rd minute proved to be the decisive goal, despite Wycombe’s late consolation from Sam Vokes.

Wrexham goalkeeper Nathan Bishop also made a crucial save to deny Marriott a second goal early in the second half.

This thrilling opening-day victory sets Wrexham up well for their return to League One, as they look to continue their impressive form and challenge for promotion in the 2023/24 season.
