Arsenal’s Pursuit of Top Striker Target Benjamin Sesko Falls Short

In a significant development in the world of football transfers, Arsenal have been dealt a blow as their top striker target, Benjamin Sesko, has decided to stay at RB Leipzig for at least another year. The 20-year-old Slovenian international was the subject of a “strong pitch” from the Gunners, but ultimately, he has opted to continue his development in Germany.

According to reports, Sesko has a “gentleman’s agreement” in place with RB Leipzig that will allow him to leave the club next summer. It is unclear whether there will be a release clause in his new contract, as he was previously available for around £55m.

The decision by Sesko mirrors the path taken by Erling Haaland, who chose to join Borussia Dortmund before moving to Manchester City, and it suggests that the young striker believes his development will be better served in Leipzig.

Arsenal will now have to explore alternative options as they prioritize the signing of a new striker under manager Mikel Arteta. The Premier League club has been linked with various players, including Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, and Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres, who had a remarkable 2023/24 season with 43 goals and 15 assists.

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs reports that Arsenal has “plenty of other options on their list,” including Brighton youngster Evan Ferguson, who is expected to command a hefty price tag of at least £100m if he leaves the Seagulls.

As the summer transfer window heats up, Arsenal’s search for a top-class striker continues, with the club eyeing potential alternatives to Sesko. Football enthusiasts will be closely following the developments as the Gunners look to bolster their strike force ahead of the upcoming Euro 2024, Champions League, and FIFA World Cup campaigns.
