Football News: Tyler Morton Attracting Interest from German, Spanish, and Dutch Clubs

Liverpool’s young midfielder Tyler Morton is generating significant interest from clubs across Europe, including in the Bundesliga, La Liga, and Eredivisie, as well as from Premier League sides.

According to reports, Bundesliga club RB Leipzig have shown the strongest interest in the 21-year-old after his back-to-back loan spells in the EFL Championship with Blackburn Rovers and Hull City. Over the past two seasons, Morton made a combined 87 appearances, scoring three goals and providing nine assists.

The England U21 international has made a total of nine senior appearances for Liverpool, all of which came in the 2021/22 season, with his last game in a Reds shirt coming in March 2022 during the FA Cup.

The Times reports that there is widespread interest from “virtually every club” in the EFL Championship to secure Morton on loan again this summer. However, Liverpool could opt to cash in on the promising youngster, with Sevilla, Feyenoord, Eintracht Frankfurt, and several Premier League clubs also said to be keen on acquiring his services.

The decision on Morton’s future may lie in the hands of Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, who is set to meet with the majority of the squad when they report for pre-season training in early July. Additionally, the return of transfer guru Michael Edwards as the club’s new chief executive of football could lead to another shrewd business move to boost Liverpool’s coffers this summer.

During Edwards’ previous tenure, he oversaw the sale of several Liverpool academy products and fringe players, including the £142 million transfer of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, which enabled the Reds to build a team that went on to win the Premier League, Champions League, and a host of domestic and international trophies.

With Morton’s long-term contract signed just 18 months ago, Liverpool are expected to demand a sizable fee for the talented midfielder, potentially in the region of £20 million, similar to the valuation of defender Sepp van den Berg.

While Championship clubs are eager to acquire Morton on loan, RB Leipzig’s interest in a permanent transfer could be a more appealing option, as the German club secured Champions League football for the 2024/25 season, which could be a significant factor in the player’s decision.
