Football News Update: Richard Keogh Joins Blackpool as First-Team Coach

In a significant move for Blackpool Football Club, the team has confirmed the return of former defender Richard Keogh as their new first-team coach. Keogh, who is 37 years old, joins Neil Critchley’s backroom staff after retiring from professional football this summer following a stint with Forest Green Rovers.

Keogh’s football career has included a seven-year spell at Derby County, and he spent the 2021-22 season playing for Blackpool. Expressing his delight at the new role, Keogh stated, “I’m delighted to be coming back to Blackpool, and grateful to the gaffer, [sporting director] David Downes and the owner for this wonderful opportunity.

The experienced coach further elaborated, “I’ve known for some time that once I hung up my boots I wanted to focus on coaching. I’ve been working hard for a number of years on my badges, and feel now is the right time to get back into the game, and to do that at a special club like Blackpool gives me a great feeling.

Keogh’s fondness for the club and its supporters was evident as he added, “Despite being at the Club for one season as a player, I felt a real connection with the supporters, and could see just how much the club means to the people here.

Blackpool finished the previous League One season in eighth place, just three points outside the play-off positions. With Keogh’s appointment, the club will be hoping to mount a stronger challenge for promotion in the upcoming 2023-24 campaign.

The addition of Keogh to Blackpool’s coaching staff is sure to be welcomed by the club’s passionate fan base, as they look to the new season with renewed optimism and a determination to strive for success.
