Football News Update: Charlton Athletic Sign Midfielder Greg Docherty
In the latest transfer news in the world of Football, Charlton Athletic have secured the signing of Scottish midfielder Greg Docherty on a three-year deal. The 27-year-old, who was a free agent after recently being released by Hull City at the end of his contract, will now be joining the League One club with an option for an additional year.
Docherty’s Career Highlights
During his four-year spell at Hull City, Docherty played a crucial role in helping the team secure promotion to the Championship. Prior to that, the midfielder had been on the books of Scottish giants Rangers.
“We’re really delighted to get this signing over the line. He’s someone we’ve been chasing for a long time, all through the summer.”
— Nathan Jones, Charlton boss
Jones highlighted Docherty’s pedigree, noting that he has been a Championship player for an extended period and has the necessary experience to excel in the League One competition.
Docherty’s career has seen him make 142 appearances for Hull City, while he has also had spells on loan at Hibernian and Shrewsbury Town, in addition to his time at his former club, Hamilton.
Charlton’s Recent Signings
This signing marks the third addition to the Charlton squad this week, following the arrivals of Coventry City striker Matty Godden and Gassan Ahadme from Ipswich Town.
As the countdown to the start of the 2023-24 season continues, Charlton Athletic will be hoping that the addition of Greg Docherty will bolster their midfield and contribute to their push for promotion in the upcoming EFL League One campaign.
