Chelsea Crush Middlesbrough 6-1 to Reach EFL Cup Final

Chelsea have secured their place in the EFL Cup final at Wembley on February 25, after a resounding 6-1 victory over Middlesbrough in the second leg of their semi-final clash.

The Premier League giants overcame a 1-0 deficit from the first leg, thanks to a dominant performance at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s goals came from an own goal by Jonny Howson, as well as strikes from Enzo Fernandez, Axel Disasi, Cole Palmer (2), and Noni Madueke.

Middlesbrough managed to pull one back late in the game through a consolation goal from Morgan Rogers, but the damage had already been done as the Championship side’s dreams of reaching Wembley were crushed.

The result equals the biggest-ever EFL Cup semi-final second leg victory, and Chelsea are only the second team to score six goals in the second leg of a semi-final in the competition.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were dominant throughout, with four of their goals coming as a result of Middlesbrough’s mistakes while trying to play out from the back. The win will be a welcome boost for the Chelsea manager, who is looking to secure his first trophy with the club in an otherwise difficult first season.

The Blues will now face either West London rivals Fulham or Liverpool, who beat them in the 2022 final, at Wembley as they seek their sixth League Cup crown and first since 2015.
