Chelsea Targeting Multiple Strikers Beyond Jhon Duran

In a move to bolster their forward line, Chelsea are reportedly considering a host of striker options beyond their imminent signing of Jhon Duran from Aston Villa, as revealed by transfer insider Graeme Bailey.

The Blues have struggled to find a consistent goalscorer since the departure of Diego Costa in the 2016/17 season, when he netted 20 goals. However, with wide man Cole Palmer netting an impressive 22 league goals in his debut campaign, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is determined to bring in a top-class striker to continue the club’s positive momentum.

While the acquisition of Duran, who scored 8 goals last season, is seen as a step in the right direction, Bailey suggests that the London club may not stop there. “It wouldn’t surprise me if Duran came in with another one [striker],” the insider said, adding that the 22-year-old Colombian may not be the “main target” for Chelsea.

The Blues are said to have a list of eight additional striker targets on their radar, including the likes of Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko, Dominic Solanke, Luis Openda, Artem Dovbyk, Ivan Toney, and Julian Alvarez. However, Bailey notes that some of these moves may face obstacles, such as Napoli’s tough negotiating stance on Osimhen.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Duran came in with another one [striker],” the insider said, adding that the 22-year-old Colombian may not be the “main target” for Chelsea.

Regarding the potential Duran signing, Bailey suggests that Chelsea are unwilling to overpay, with the £30 million fee paid for Nicolas Jackson potentially indicative of their valuation for the Aston Villa striker. Nevertheless, the insider believes that the Blues could bring in Duran and “one other” striker this summer, in their quest to find the consistent goalscorer they have been lacking.

As the 2024/25 season approaches, Chelsea fans will eagerly await the club’s activity in the transfer market, with the potential arrival of multiple strikers set to be a key focus for the Premier League giants.
