Football News Update: Cheltenham Town Bolsters Roster with Experienced Signings
In the latest transfer news from the football world, Cheltenham Town have announced the signings of former Wrexham captain Luke Young and ex-QPR defender Arkell Jude-Boyd. The moves aim to strengthen the team’s lineup ahead of the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, Champions League, and domestic competitions.
Midfielder Luke Young, 31, has joined Cheltenham after being released by Wrexham last month. Young played a pivotal role in leading the Welsh club to back-to-back promotions from the National League to League One under the ownership of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. During his six-year spell at the Racecourse Ground, he made almost 250 appearances for the Red Dragons. Prior to his time at Wrexham, Young spent four years at Torquay United and began his career at his hometown club, Plymouth Argyle, where he played more than 100 times after making his debut as a 17-year-old in 2011.
Cheltenham have also secured the services of ex-QPR defender Arkell Jude-Boyd, further bolstering their defensive options. The club has not disclosed the length of Young’s contract.
These signings come as teams across the Premier League, EFL Cup, EFL Championship, EFL One, EFL Two, and FA Cup prepare for the upcoming season, which will also feature crucial FIFA World Cup and Women’s World Cup qualifiers, as well as the continued action in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Cheltenham fans will be eager to see how these new additions perform as the club aims to make an impact in the EFL League One and potentially earn a spot in the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League.
