Football News: England Face Tough Euro 2024 Semi-Final Against In-Form Netherlands
Our football betting expert offers up his three best Netherlands vs England betting tips and predictions ahead of Wednesday’s crucial Euro 2024 semi-final clash.
England are one step away from reaching the final of Euro 2024, but they face a formidable challenge against an impressive Netherlands side on Wednesday. The Three Lions needed a last-gasp overhead kick from Jude Bellingham to avoid a shock exit against Slovakia in the last round, and they had to go through a penalty shootout to overcome Switzerland in the quarter-finals.
The Semi-Final Challenge
The semi-final against the Netherlands is unlikely to be straightforward either, as the Dutch should be fresher than England, having cruised through their previous two knockout ties in normal time. They beat Romania 3-0 in the round of 16 before securing an entertaining 2-1 victory over Turkey in the last eight.
Both Teams to Score
Both teams to score looks a tempting bet when the Netherlands take on England, with two of the Dutch’s three group games featuring goals at both ends. England’s recent matches have also been tight affairs, with three of their last four games ending 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Depay to Score
Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo has been the standout performer for the Netherlands, scoring three times at Euro 2024, but Memphis Depay remains the main threat in the Dutch attacking unit. The Atletico Madrid forward scored against Austria in the group stage and provided an excellent assist in the quarter-final victory over Turkey. Depay has been consistently prolific in front of goal during the tournament, and he is worth backing to add to his tally against England.
Luke Shaw to be Carded
England left-back Luke Shaw is in line to make his first start since mid-February, and the Manchester United man could be a leading candidate to receive a caution. Shaw returned from injury as a substitute against Switzerland, but he is expected to start on Wednesday, and his lack of match sharpness could see him targeted by the Dutch attackers. Injury restricted the United defender to only 14 Premier League and Champions League starts in 2023-24, and he was cautioned in seven of those games.
