Football News Update: England’s Euro 2024 Preparations Boosted by Shaw and Stones
Weimar, Germany – England received a significant boost in their Euro 2024 preparations as Manchester United’s Luke Shaw and Manchester City’s John Stones returned to training with the Three Lions squad.
Shaw and Stones Return to Training
Shaw, who hasn’t played since February, made his comeback at England’s training base in Weimar. However, the 28-year-old left-back was spotted wearing a unique green ‘no contact’ bib, suggesting he may need more time to fully recover from his long-term hamstring injury before being considered for the opening match against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen.
The good news didn’t end there, as Stones, who suffered an injury during England’s 1-0 defeat to Iceland, also rejoined the group just four days before the start of the tournament. Both Shaw and Stones’ return to training has raised expectations for England’s chances at Euro 2024.
England’s Positive Start to Preparations
Gareth Southgate’s squad has had a positive start to their preparations, with all 26 players participating in the training session. This includes Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who put any fitness concerns to rest by completing the full session. However, Stones missed training on Tuesday due to illness.
“The absence of Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell through injury means that Shaw is the only specialist left-back in Southgate’s squad. The United defender has previously excelled for England at major tournaments, even scoring in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.”
As England continue their final preparations for the Euro 2024 campaign, the return of key players like Shaw and Stones will undoubtedly boost the team’s morale and chances of success in the continental competition.
