Football News: Euro 2024, Champions League, and World Cup Highlights
The 2024 UEFA European Championship is now underway, and the continent’s top goalscorers are battling it out for glory. Cristiano Ronaldo, the legendary Portuguese striker, ended the last European Championships as the top scorer, netting five goals throughout the 2020 tournament.
Ronaldo’s goals have extended his lead at the top of the all-time Euros scoring charts, sitting well above some of the game’s iconic names. The 38-year-old, who is Portugal’s all-time top scorer, will be hoping to add more to his tally of 14 goals in the competition this summer.
England’s Striking Talent
England’s Harry Kane will be aiming to break into the top ten goalscorers in Euros history, with the Three Lions captain currently on four goals. France legend Michel Platini is second on the all-time list with nine goals, all of which he scored in the 1984 tournament as Les Bleus went on to win the title.
In third place, there is a three-way tie between England’s Alan Shearer, France’s Antoine Griezmann, and Spain’s Alvaro Morata, each with seven goals in the competition. Shearer is England’s top scorer at the Euros, while Griezmann and Morata have both starred for their respective national teams in major tournaments.
Legendary Goalscorers
Meanwhile, multiple legendary players, including Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Patrick Kluivert, are on six goals each in the Euros. Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku, who has found superb scoring form in qualifying, is also on six goals and is likely to add more this summer.
“As the 2024 Euros continue to unfold, fans can look forward to more thrilling action and goal-scoring exploits from the continent’s best strikers. The UEFA Champions League and the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico are also on the horizon, promising more exciting football news in the coming years.”
