Football News: Shearer Offers Advice to Get Kane Firing in Euro 2024 Semi-final
Former England captain Alan Shearer has shared his advice to help get Harry Kane firing on all cylinders for the crucial Euro 2024 semi-final against the Netherlands.
Shearer, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest English strikers of all time, has backed Kane amid recent criticism of the England captain’s performances at the tournament.
“Harry Kane is a world-class striker, and I have no doubt he will deliver when it matters most,” Shearer said. “In the semi-final against the Netherlands, Gareth Southgate needs to ensure Kane is utilized to his full potential.”
The ex-England skipper suggested that Southgate should focus on getting the ball into Kane’s feet more often, allowing the Tottenham Hotspur forward to hold up play and bring his teammates into the game.
“Kane is at his best when he can drop deeper, link up with the midfielders, and then make those trademark runs in behind the opposition defense,” Shearer explained. “Southgate should encourage Kane to get on the ball more often and create chances for the likes of Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, and Marcus Rashford.”
Shearer’s comments come after Kane scored twice in England’s 3-1 quarter-final victory over Portugal, but he has faced criticism for his overall performance at the tournament thus far.
“Kane is a world-class striker, and I have no doubt he will deliver when it matters most,” Shearer added. “With the right tactics and support from his teammates, I’m confident he can fire England into the Euro 2024 final.”
The highly anticipated semi-final showdown between England and the Netherlands is set to take place on July 5th at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.
