Football News Update: Jack Grealish Misses Euro 2024 Squad

In a surprising move, Manchester City star Jack Grealish will not be part of the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament in Germany. The 28-year-old winger has been left out of Gareth Southgate’s 26-man roster for the European Championship.

Grealish, who was part of the initial 33-man squad, even featured in a friendly against Bosnia, setting up England’s second goal in a 3-0 victory. However, the former Aston Villa playmaker failed to make the final cut for the tournament.

Southgate explained the reasoning behind his decision, stating that other players have had stronger seasons, particularly in the last six months.

Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon and Grealish’s Manchester City teammate Phil Foden, who both hit double figures for goals and assists, have seemingly surpassed the England international in the pecking order.

The Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze’s impressive form also played a part in Grealish’s omission. Additionally, the winger’s own injury struggles throughout the season have limited his impact, contributing to his exclusion from the squad.

While Grealish’s England teammates were reportedly surprised by his absence, the player himself has yet to publicly comment on the decision. However, former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic claimed that Grealish’s omission could be good news for his native Serbia.

Despite missing out on the Euros, Grealish will no doubt continue to support England’s efforts at the tournament as he prepares for the upcoming season with Manchester City.
