In a significant move for the upcoming Football League One season, Reading FC right-back Kelvin Abrefa has penned a new two-year contract with the club. The 20-year-old defender has been with the Royals since 2017, coming through their youth academy, and made 13 appearances in all competitions last term.
“We’re delighted to secure Kelvin to a new two-year contract,” said Reading’s head of football operations, Mark Bowen. “There was, understandably, plenty of external interest in him, so we’re very happy that Kelvin’s chosen to continue his development as a Reading player.”
Abrefa, who has been with the club since the age of 12, will be looking to build on his breakthrough season and cement a regular starting spot in the team as they prepare for the upcoming League One campaign. The Royals will kick off their season with a trip to Birmingham City on 10 August.
