Football News: Manchester United Monitoring Napoli’s Victor Osimhen for Potential Summer Transfer

According to latest reports, Manchester United could revive their interest in signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen during the upcoming summer transfer window. The Red Devils are in the market for a proven goalscorer to boost their attacking options for the 2024/25 season.

Manchester United’s strikers, Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford, managed only 17 goals between them in the Premier League this season, leading to concerns about the team’s ability to challenge at the top. Many pundits and fans believe the club will need to bring in a more reliable goalscorer to support the young Hojlund.

“Osimhen, who has been on United’s radar for some time, could be a potential target. The Nigerian international has been impressive for Napoli, but his high price tag of around €120m to €130m had previously put off the Premier League giants and other European clubs. However, reports now suggest that Napoli may have lowered their valuation to approximately €100m, making Osimhen a more viable option.”

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed last week that there is a “big possibility” Osimhen could end up in the Premier League next season, with Manchester United and Arsenal named as potential destinations. The Italian journalist also claimed that the Red Devils are closely monitoring the situation and could make a move.

In addition, Italian publication La Repubblica (via Sport Witness) has reported that United have had direct contact with the agent of another striker, Joshua Zirkzee, to understand the cost of that potential operation. However, the report suggests that United could revive their interest in Osimhen and potentially offer a deal involving Rasmus Hojlund as part of the transfer.

It remains to be seen if Manchester United will successfully secure the signature of Victor Osimhen this summer, but the club’s continued interest in the prolific striker suggests they are determined to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
