Trippier Advises Gordon to Return Early, England Ready for Euro 2024 Challenge
In a recent interview, Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has revealed how he advised teammate Anthony Gordon to “come straight back” to the club after the Under-21 European Championship, which helped the young forward overcome his “struggles” during the first half of the season.
Gordon, who joined Newcastle in a £45million move from Everton, scored just one goal in 18 games for the Magpies at the start of the campaign. However, the 22-year-old has since turned his fortunes around, netting 12 goals and providing 11 assists in 48 appearances this season.
“I’m really happy for Anthony because when he arrived at Newcastle, I think he won’t mind me saying that he struggled a little bit in the sense of fitness wise and stuff like that,” said Trippier.
The experienced England international then revealed that he had a “good chat” with Gordon during their holiday together before the Euros, advising him to “come straight back” into pre-season and “hit the ground running,” which the young forward has done.
