Newcastle Sign Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly on Five-Year Deal
In a significant move for the upcoming season, Newcastle United have secured the services of Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly on a five-year contract. The 25-year-old, who has made 23 Premier League appearances for the Cherries, will reunite with Magpies boss Eddie Howe, who previously brought him to the south coast club from Bristol City in 2019.
Kelly, a versatile player capable of operating as a left-back or left-center-half, will be a valuable addition to Newcastle’s defensive lineup. Speaking about the transfer, the player expressed his excitement to work with Howe once again, stating that the opportunity “wasn’t a hard decision” given their previous successful collaboration.
“Working with the gaffer previously, I know what he wants from his players and how he wants his players to play, and I think with what I can bring it just makes sense,” said Kelly. “I just can’t wait to get started.”
The move comes as Newcastle look to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, the Champions League, and the FIFA World Cup, as well as the Women’s World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations. The Magpies will also be aiming for success in the Premier League, EFL Cup, EFL Championship, EFL One, EFL Two, and FA Cup.
With Kelly’s arrival, Newcastle have addressed a key defensive need after missing out on Tosin Adarabioyo, who opted to join Chelsea from Fulham. The club’s supporters will be eager to see how the new signing integrates into Howe’s tactics and helps the team challenge for trophies in the upcoming season.
