Football News: Premier League Rules Changes Aim to Reduce Stoppage Time in 2024/25 Season
Football enthusiasts can look forward to a more fluid and fast-paced Premier League experience in the upcoming 2024/25 season, as officials have introduced a change in how added time is calculated.
According to talkSPORT.com, the Premier League has implemented a new rule that will significantly reduce the amount of stoppage time during matches. Previously, when a goal was scored, match officials would add on the time taken before the restart. However, this approach is now being adjusted.
Under the new system, officials will allow a 30-second window for players to return to their positions and restart the game. After this natural 30-second interval, the officials will then begin tallying any additional time, which will be added on at the end of the match.
This change is one of three key rules being introduced ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign. Another notable adjustment is the increase in the number of permitted substitutions, from three to five. Additionally, an improved multiball system has been implemented, allowing ball assistants to return the ball to goalkeepers for goal kicks, with the aim of speeding up the game’s overall pace.
“During the 2023/24 Premier League season, there was a noticeable rise in stoppage time added to matches, largely due to factors such as VAR decisions and an average of over three goals per game. The Premier League’s top brass are now expecting a ‘significant drop’ in added time this upcoming season as a result of the new rule changes.”
These strategic adjustments are part of the league’s ongoing efforts to enhance the viewing experience for football fans and ensure a more dynamic and entertaining Premier League season. Fans can look forward to faster-paced, action-packed matches as they follow the thrilling narratives of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
